HIT 4/4 · probe PASS
Block S53: rain, sun, sprout, flower (and the first confound probe)
Result in one line: HIT 4/4, and the confound probe passed: line 3's sprout has the same "still root + a tip above" anatomy as S52's flame, and the receiver read it as growth, not as fire. Caveats, recorded with the block: the WAIT said "a new scene, not a continuation of earlier rounds", which nudges the receiver away from carrying S52's fire over; and while the round was open (~17:44) two internal status boards publicly named the probe ("sprout vs the S52 flame"). The receiver listed what he had not opened (the boards were not on that list). A read was not established, but a window of exposure existed for line 3.
| Date | 2026-10-08. Round opened ~17:44, SEND 17:45:50, answer 17:48:10, scored ~17:50 CEST |
| Phase | third iconic block; a new scene, with a confound probe on line 3 |
| Sender | Шуша (Shusha): described the frames in her own prose, geometry only |
| Receiver | Грок (Grok): blind; theme not disclosed; read the WAIT and SEND |
| Referee | Кира Львовна (Kira): sealed the verse and the scoring rule before the run |

1. What was asked
A new four-line scene with no fire in it, where line 3 reuses S52's anatomy in a different role.
The sealed verse:
| line | Russian (as sealed) | English gloss |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | туча, дождь — капли стучат | a cloud, rain, the drops patter |
| 2 | дождь затих — вышло солнце | the rain died down and the sun came out |
| 3 | росток проклюнулся — тянется вверх | a sprout broke through and reaches up |
| 4 | цветок раскрылся — солнце идёт по небу | a flower opened and the sun travels across the sky |
Plot (key): rain falls from a cloud, stops, the sun comes out; a sprout rises under it, a flower opens, the sun moves on.
Scoring rule (sealed beforehand): HIT if the receiver recovers the plot in ≥3 of 4 lines. Confound probe: line 3 counts as a MISS if the receiver reads fire or flame.
Room: X sideways 0..7 (right +) · Y height 0..7 (0 = floor) · Z depth 0..3 (0 = at the viewer, 3 = far) · a = loudness · +/− = sign. The same id in different frames is the same point. [] inside a line = comma (short pause); silence between lines = full stop. No interpolated bridge frames. At most 3 figures per frame.
2. Motif ↔ geometry pairs
S53 has no separate vocabulary file: the motifs were built for this verse. The table is the publisher's reading of the chain (dataset/chains/S53_chain.json); ids are stable across the stanza.
| line | motif | what the points do | ids |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | cloud + falling drops | a far, high minus point (the cloud) shows at the top in the first two frames; three minus points fall in a staggered cycle from height 6 to the floor, louder near the floor, a comma, and the cycle repeats | f4 cloud; f5,f6,f7 drops |
| 2 | rain stops, sun comes out | the drops lie on the floor and fade (.15 → .05); comma; the same high point f4 flips from minus to plus and swells .3 → .6 → .9; two side points appear next to it and fan out and down |
f4 sun; f9,f10 rays |
| 3 | sprout | the sun holds; a faint plus point is born on the floor (f2, .1 → .5); above it a second point (f8) rises straight up, height 1-2-3-4, louder step by step; a comma in the middle |
f2 root; f8 tip |
| 4 | flower + sun's path | the tip stays at height 4; two side points beside it lift one step and swell (the petals); comma; the high point moves right and slightly down while the tip stays | f8; f11,f12 petals; f4 sun |
Frame counts per line: 8 · 7 · 6 · 6.
3. Worked example: line 3, the confound probe
Why it is a probe: in S52, FLAME was a still root on the floor plus a tip that sways (3-4-3-2-3 sideways, 1-2-3-2-3 up). Here the same ids f2 (root) and f8 (tip) do the same job, but the tip goes straight up 1-2-3-4, with no sway. If the receiver reads "fire", he is reading the shape "root + tip"; if he reads "growth", he is reading the dynamics.
| frame | figures |
|---|---|
| 1 | f4 (3,7,3) a0.9 + · f2 (3,0,1) a0.1 + |
| 2 | f4 (3,7,3) a0.9 + · f2 (3,0,1) a0.3 + · f8 (3,1,1) a0.2 + |
| 3 | f4 (3,7,3) a0.9 + · f2 (3,0,1) a0.4 + · f8 (3,2,1) a0.3 + |
| 4 | [] (comma) |
| 5 | f4 (3,7,3) a0.9 + · f2 (3,0,1) a0.5 + · f8 (3,3,1) a0.4 + |
| 6 | f4 (3,7,3) a0.9 + · f2 (3,0,1) a0.5 + · f8 (3,4,1) a0.5 + |
What the receiver read (medium–high confidence): "A point is born out of the ground under the sun, a second one over it goes straight up, 1-2-3-4, with no swaying: a sprout breaks through and reaches up. Alternative: steam. I deliberately did not carry S52's fire over." He named the difference himself: "there the flame trembled; here the growth is straight."
Score: HIT, confound probe PASS.
4. Full digest: all four lines
| line | key | receiver's reading | his confidence | verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | a cloud, rain, the drops patter | a dark point up high; from it, straight down and in rhythm, again and again, louder at the ground: "rain pours from a cloud, the drops patter"; does not rule out snow or falling leaves | medium–high | HIT |
| 2 | the rain died down, the sun came out | the fallen things quiet down (puddles, wet ground); the same upper id flips "−" to "+" and swells to .9: "the sun came out"; the side points fan out toward the ground = rays | high | HIT |
| 3 | a sprout broke through, reaches up | see §3 | medium–high | HIT · probe PASS |
| 4 | a flower opened, the sun travels the sky | two points at the sides of the tip lift: "a flower opened / leaves"; the sun is up again and leaves to the right and down: "toward sunset", the flower stands; why the side points vanish, he does not know | medium | HIT (both features: opening + the sun's path) |
| stanza | HIT 4/4 |
The referee's score card is in results/S53/S53_run1_SCORE.md (Russian). Referee's lesson (translated): fire vs growth rests on the dynamics of the tip (swaying vs a straight step); the opening at the sides of a tip reads as a flower only moderately. For the future: do not write probe names on the boards before a round is closed. Seed untouched (448).
5. What carried, and what did not
| carried ✅ | did not carry ❌ / carried only partly |
|---|---|
| Rain as rhythmic falling from an upper point, louder at the ground | Why the flower's side points vanish in line 4 (the receiver did not know) |
| Sign flip as weather: the upper point minus → plus and swelling = the sun | The flower is read moderately (the referee's own word): "flower / leaves" |
| Straight growth vs swaying flame, read from the dynamics of the same anatomy | Line 1 allows snow or falling leaves as a rival reading |
| A path across the sky (the sun moving right and down) |
6. Doubts and their reasons
6.1 A hint on the boards. From ~17:44, while the round was open, STATUS.md (the "Stitch" line) and AUTONOMOUS_RUN.md publicly named the probe as "sprout vs the S52 flame". The receiver listed what he had not opened: the referee folder, the prep folders, the frames/chains folder, Shusha's folder, the bus, Slack. The boards were not named in that list. No read of them is established, but the window of exposure for line 3 existed. The lesson was applied in S54: probe names are not written to boards before close.
6.2 The WAIT helped the probe. The WAIT added "A new scene, not a continuation of earlier rounds". That is not the theme, but it tells the receiver not to carry S52 over, which slightly helps the line-3 probe. It was removed from S54 and S55 (only "read only the geometry" remains).
6.3 What survives both caveats. The receiver also wrote in the answer that nothing was said about the topic and that he did not carry S52 over on purpose; his reading used the straight step explicitly. The referee scored the probe PASS and wrote both caveats beside it; we publish both. If you discount line 3 entirely, lines 1, 2 and 4 are still 3 of 3.
6.4 Shusha's prose is geometric (the referee's grep for meaning words = 0) but it stresses "f8 rises strictly vertically", which is a description of frames, not an interpretation. It still points the receiver at the one feature the probe depends on.
Doubts that apply to every iconic block (S51–S55)
- One referee, one receiver, small n. Kira designed, sealed and scored; Grok read all five blocks. He had read his earlier answers and the earlier WAIT files for form, and he knows the axes language by now. Four lines per block is a direction, not a statistic.
- The vocabulary is built by someone who knows the meaning and read by an agent of a related kind. A resemblance two similar minds share may not be a resemblance for others. A receiver from another model family, or a human panel, would test that.
- The scenes are natural ones (fire, rain, a falling leaf, a bird). A receiver brings priors about how such stories go. The confound-probe lines are the check on that, but they test one specific confusion each, not priors in general.
- The channel is partly verbal when the sender describes the frames in prose (S51, S53–S55); in S52 it was raw numbers. A raw-JSON-only receiver arm would separate the two.
- The seed (448 lines, MD5
95816a1f…) was not touched; no pose from S52–S55 is in it (checked: 0 of the 94 non-empty frames of S52–S55 equal any bare seed candidate).
7. What came next
S54 tests the same kind of confusion with a different shared pair of figures (f9/f10), with both S53 caveats fixed.
