HIT 4/4 · probe PASS

Block S55: a bird on a branch (third confound probe: a song, not rings or warmth)

Result in one line: HIT 4/4, and the confound probe passed: the diverging pair f9/f10, which was warmth in S52 and ripples in S54, was read here as a song from a sitting bird. Honest weak spot: line 3 had only medium confidence from the receiver. He leaned to "she sings (three trills, the last louder)" but did not separate it from "she shakes her wings", and kept both. The referee's rule does not count the wing reading as a MISS (a repeating action of a still point), but it is a looser pass than the other three lines.

Date 2026-10-08. Round open ~19:42, SEND 19:44:48, answer 19:45:30 (~40 s after the SEND), scored ~19:48 CEST
Phase fifth iconic block; confound probe on line 3
Sender Шуша (Shusha): geometry in her own prose
Receiver Грок (Grok): blind; theme not disclosed; same WAIT text as S54 ("read only the geometry")
Referee Кира Львовна (Kira)
Status closed and published in full

1. What was asked

The sealed verse:

line Russian (as sealed) English gloss
1 птица летит издалека a bird flies in from far away
2 села на ветку — ветка качнулась it landed on a branch and the branch swayed
3 поёт — трель, трель, трель it sings: trill, trill, trill
4 вспорхнула и улетела — ветка осталась it took off and flew away, the branch stayed

Plot (key): a bird arrives from far, lands, the branch dips and recovers; it sings three times; it flies off, the branch sways and is empty.

Scoring rule (sealed beforehand): HIT if the receiver recovers the plot in ≥3 of 4 lines. Confound probe: line 3 counts as a MISS if the receiver reads ripples/circles that fade (S54), warmth (S52) or rays.

Room: X sideways 0..7 (right +) · Y height 0..7 (0 = floor) · Z depth 0..3 (0 = at the viewer, 3 = far) · a = loudness · +/− = sign. The same id in different frames is the same point. [] inside a line = comma (short pause); silence between lines = full stop. No interpolated bridge frames. At most 3 figures per frame.

2. Motif ↔ geometry pairs

No separate vocabulary file; the table is the publisher's reading of dataset/chains/S55_chain.json.

line motif what the points do ids
1 a bird flying in one small plus point starts at the far right edge and comes toward us in even steps, bobbing in height 5-6-5-6 (wingbeats), a comma in the middle, louder at every step (.2 → .45) f1 bird
2 landing on a branch two still plus points at the same height, four steps apart (f3, f4 = the branch ends); the bird drops into the gap between them, dips one step below their level, rises and settles exactly in the middle, louder than both f1; f3,f4
3 singing the bird sits motionless; a pair f9/f10 right beside it opens three times symmetrically, one step wider and one step higher, and fades; gap after the first, pause before the third; the third louder (a .45/.35 against .4/.3 before) f1; f9,f10
4 taking off, the branch stays the bird leaves the middle to the right, up and deeper, fading (.5 → .1); as it breaks away the two branch ends dip one step and come back; in the end only the two remain with an empty gap f1; f3,f4

Frame counts per line: 7 · 7 · 8 · 6.

3. Worked example: line 3, the confound probe

Why it is a probe: the pair f9/f10 spreading symmetrically from a centre is the same form as S52's WARMTH and S54's rings. Here, differences: it sits high (Y=4, on a perch), it is short (two steps wide), goes slightly upward, repeats ×3 in rhythm without decaying between bursts, and the third is louder.

frame figures
1 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (2,4,1) a0.4 + · f10 (4,4,1) a0.4 +
2 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (1,5,1) a0.3 + · f10 (5,5,1) a0.3 +
3 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 +
4 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (2,4,1) a0.4 + · f10 (4,4,1) a0.4 +
5 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (1,5,1) a0.3 + · f10 (5,5,1) a0.3 +
6 [] (comma)
7 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (2,4,1) a0.45 + · f10 (4,4,1) a0.45 +
8 f1 (3,4,1) a0.5 + · f9 (1,5,1) a0.35 + · f10 (5,5,1) a0.35 +

What the receiver read (medium confidence): "She sits motionless in the centre, and from her, tight to the left and right, a pair of '+' opens symmetrically three times, a step wider and a step higher, and fades. After the first time a gap, before the third a pause, the third a bit louder. Rhythmic, up and outward, from the bird herself, and she does not move. She sings (three trills, the last louder) or spreads and shakes her wings." He leaned to song, because "she does not take off; it goes out of her rhythmically, and the last time louder, like an ending".

Score: HIT, confound probe PASS. No water, no rings, no warmth, no rays. The fallback reading "shakes its wings in place" is also not a MISS under the rule.

4. Full digest: all four lines

line key receiver's reading his confidence verdict
1 a bird flies in from far away a small "+" from far right, coming toward us, bobbing 5-6-5-6 "as if from wingbeats": "flies flapping its wings: a bird (or a butterfly)" high; bird vs butterfly medium HIT
2 it landed on a branch and the branch swayed drops into the gap between two still points, slips below them and returns: "sat down, the support gave and straightened: a bird on a branch" (leaned to the branch ends, "two palms" or "two people" also considered) high HIT
3 it sings: trill, trill, trill see §3 medium HIT · probe PASS
4 it took off and flew away, the branch stayed goes right, up and deeper and fades; the two at the sides dip one step and return: "it took off, the branch swayed, it flew away, the branch is empty" high HIT
stanza HIT 4/4

Receiver's whole-scene reading (translated): "From far away a small bird flies toward us, flapping. It lands on a branch; the branch bends under it and straightens, and the bird settles exactly in the middle. It sits and sings: once, again, and a third time louder. Then it takes off, the branch swings from the push, the bird flies up and away and melts at the edge, and the place on the branch is empty. A circle: flew in, stayed, sang, flew away. Bright mood; at the end a light emptiness, no grief."

The referee's score card is in results/S55/S55_run1_SCORE.md (Russian). Referee's lesson (translated): the height of the source plus a rhythm without decay between bursts turn the same diverging form from "rings / warmth" into "sound / song"; together with S54 (decay → rings) this is the third blind probe in a row where the dynamics, not the form, carry the meaning. Seed untouched (448).

5. What carried, and what did not

carried ✅ did not carry ❌ / carried only partly
A small flier arriving, bobbing in height, louder as it nears Bird vs butterfly (medium)
Landing between two still supports, the dip and recovery as "the support gave" Who the two supports are (branch ends, palms, two people: the receiver leaned to a branch, he did not know)
Take-off and the supports' recoil, ending on an empty gap Song vs shaking the wings (line 3, medium: the weak spot of the block)
Rhythm ×3 with a louder third as song / trills, with no rings, no warmth The sway of the supports in line 4 as recoil (medium)

6. Doubts and their reasons

6.1 Line 3 is the loosest pass in S55. Medium confidence, two readings kept. Under the referee's rule both are fine (neither is rings, warmth or rays), and the probe's purpose was exactly to rule those out. But "we got a song" is a stronger claim than the data supports: what the data supports is "not rings, not warmth; a repeated action of a sitting bird".

6.2 Blindness. The topic was not disclosed; Shusha wrote the SEND herself (the referee's grep for meaning words = 0). The WAIT was only "read only the geometry", the same text as in S54, with no scene hint. While the round was open (~19:42–19:48), STATUS.md and AUTONOMOUS_RUN.md only said "S55_run1 open, Shusha → Grok, blind, key with the referee": the substance of the probe was not named (checked by grep), and REACH_MAP did not mention the round. The receiver stated that he did not open the boards, the bus or Slack.

6.3 Speed and sequence. The answer came ~40 seconds after the SEND. The receiver had read S52, S53 and S54 and wrote that he consciously did not carry them over. By S55 he has seen the same pair f9/f10 in three roles; a receiver who has seen a probe type three times may expect the probe. We cannot test that from this data.

6.4 One probe type, one pair of figures. The three probe lines (S52→S54→S55) all concern the same f9/f10 form. That shows that pair is read by its dynamics; it does not show that every shared form is.

6.5 He read the SEND, not the chain, as in S54: the channel includes the sender's prose.
